The Blackwell Family, Blackwell Music Center, listed on this web site pioneered the preservation of this music and were the first to offer nationally attended professionally taught fiddle camps where our heritage was taught here in Missouri beginning in the early 1980s. They were also the first in Missouri to sponsor band workshops for their students taught by nationally recognized old-time and Bluegrass bands. Later others also saw the need and now, as well as the Blackwell Academy of Practical Music in Seymour, MO there is also a state program to preserve this heritage.
